Men of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a 21-year-old suspected armed robber, Nnamdi Omeka, while robbing residents of Sango in the state.
The suspect was arrested on Tuesday by men of the Command while carrying out a robbery operation. The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday.
Oyeyemi said the suspect was arrested following a distress call received by the Divisional Police Officer, Sango Divisional Headquarters.
The PPRO said the police were told that a two-man armed robbery syndicate was attacking one Rasaq Hamed at Ile pupa Iloye area of Sango-Ota in order to dispossess him of his car.
He added, “Upon the information, the DPO Sango-Ota, CSP Godwin Idehai, quickly mobilised his patrol team and moved to the scene.
“On getting to the scene, the robbers, who were shooting sporadically, took to their heels but they were hotly chased and one of them was arrested with the help of members of the community, while the other escaped.
“Recovered from them are four live cartridges and one expended cartridge.”
Oyeyemi said the Commissioner of Police in the state, Edward Ajogun, has ordered a massive manhunt for the fleeing member of the gang.
According to Oyeyemi, the CP has also directed that the arrested suspect be transferred to the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for discreet investigation.
