Men of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested two suspected drug peddlers, Rabiu Mohammed and Sanni Audu, for alleged possession and sale of illicit drugs, including Indian hemp, in the Dantata area of Mile 2.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi, said in a statement on Sunday that Mohammed was arrested following a tip-off that he was displaying drugs for sale in the Dantata area, adding that Audu, who is the major supplier, was arrested during a follow-up investigation.
He said, “Operatives of the Area ‘E’ Command, Festac, on July 30, 2021, around 6am, arrested two drug peddlers at the Dantata area, Mile 2, along the Badagry Expressway, Lagos State, and recovered weed suspected to be Indian hemp and other illicit substances from them.
“The police had been informed of the activities of the drug peddlers, who were displaying drugs for sales with impunity around the area. The policemen, as a follow-up to the tip-off, raced to the scene, where one Rabiu Mohammed was arrested.
“The suspect confessed that one Sanni Audu was the major dealer/supplier. The police went after Sanni Audu and arrested him with some quantities of weed suspected to be Indian hemp and other illicit substances.”
Adejobi stated that the state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, had ordered that the suspects be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Panti, Yaba, for further investigation.
He said, “The state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, while reiterating his directive to officers and men of the command to go after criminals and hoodlums in the state, ordered that other members of the syndicate must be apprehended.
“He further directed that the illegal items/illicit substances in the custody of the suspects and in any part of the state must be recovered in order to reduce the quantity of hard/illicit drugs in circulation.
“The police boss equally directed that the suspects be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Panti, Yaba, for proper investigation and possible prosecution.”
Odumosu reassured members of the public of adequate security of lives and property, and sustainable fight against the menace of drug misuse and abuse in the state.
