As part of the preparation for their 2022 World Cup qualifier against Liberia, a total of 21 players took part in the Super Eagles first training session on Tuesday in Tangier, Morocco.

The match holds on Saturday at the 45,000-seater Grand Stade de Tanger in Morocco, Liberia’s adopted home for their World Cup qualifiers.

According to a statement by the Communications Department of the Nigeria Football Federation, coach Gernot Rohr almost had the full complement of players for the first training, except for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, Odion Ighalo – who returns to the team after a two-year absence – and Enyimba goalkeeper John Noble – who was drafted in to replace injured Francis Uzoho – who were yet to arrive.

The Eagles will hope to secure maximum points against the Lone Star to ease pressure when they face Cape Verde – who are two points behind them – three days later in Lagos.

Cape Verde also host Central African Republic in Mindelo on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Liberia’s Lone Star delegation also arrived in Tangier on Monday, and included three goalkeepers, seven defenders, seven midfielders and five forwards.

President, Liberia Football Association, Mustapha Raji said Morocco was selected as an alternative home venue because of the minimum cost attached and the cordial relationship between the LFA and the Royal Morocco Football Federation.
