Paris Saint-Germain forward, Kylian Mbappe has claimed he also turned down a free transfer to Liverpool to sign a new deal with the Ligue 1 club.
Mbappe signed a bumper three-year extension with PSG last weekend, snubbing Real Madrid who were favourites to land him this summer.
The 23-year-old is believed to have been given the most lucrative contract in the club’s history and will have a big say over the running of the club behind-the-scenes.
While Real Madrid may have seemed like the only rival for his signature, Mbappe has now confirmed he held brief talks with Liverpool too.
Speaking to The Telegraph, he said: “We talked a little bit, but not too much. We talked a little bit.
“I talked to Liverpool because it’s the favourite club of my mum, my mum loves Liverpool. I don’t know why, you will have to ask her.
“It’s a good club and we met them five years ago [too]. When I was in Monaco I met them. It’s a big club.”
