Security operatives drawn from the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Nigerian Army and Department of State Service (DSS) have killed the leader of the Eastern Security Network (ESN) popularly known as Ikonso Commander. ESN is the militia wing of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
This is coming a few hours after the country home of Imo State governor, Hope Uzodinma, was torched while no fewer than two security personnel were killed.
Sources at the Force headquarters, Abuja, disclosed that the operatives stormed the operational headquarters of the ESN in Awomama Village Oru East Local Government Area of Imo State with a view to tracking down those wreaking havocs on police officers and public institutions in the South East.
It was gathered that as the security forces approached their base, they came under rapid fire from the group. In a bold and clinical response, the joint security forces fought back gallantly. The Forces were said to have eventually neutralized the overall commander of the insurgents in the South East popularly known as Ikonso Commander and six other armed fighters of the group.
After battle, the remains of Ikonso and others killed were recovered. Six AK47 rifles, hundreds of ammunition of different calibre, bulletproof charms, among others, were found.
