At least 108 out of 240 inmates who escaped from a prison in Kabba, Kogi State have been recaptured. Heavily armed gunmen stormed the Security Custodial Centre in Kabba, in Kogi State, late on Sunday, freeing scores of inmates.
Nigeria’s correctional service spokesman Francis Enobore confirmed “we have a total of 108 inmates rearrested”. “But as the day progresses, the figure will definitely increase. Several processes have been activated to ensure all inmates are rearrested,” he added.
On Sunday, no fewer than 240 inmates of the Kabba Medium Custodial Centre, Kogi State escaped when gunmen attacked the 13-year-old facility late Sunday night.
A soldier and a policeman died in a gun duel between securitymen guarding the facility and the attackers. The whereabouts of two Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) personnel are yet to be ascertained as at press time.
