Chief Security Officer to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Gordon Obua has dismissed media reports that he was dead.
Obua said in a media conference at the service headquarters in Abuja on Tueday that he was hale and hearty and was being treated with dignity by the management and staff of the Department of State Services (DSS), where he is being held in detention.
The fate of Mr. Obua, a serving officer of the DSS, became a subject of frenzied media backlash since his detention last week following speculations that he was denied food, medication as well as being tortured, leading to his demise in captivity.
But the man, who looked composed and well kept, sad: “I thank Nigerians and members of my family who have expressed very serious concern about my wellbeing in the last six days. I want to use this medium to tell Nigerians and members of my family that I am hale and hearty.
On the reason for his detention Obua said: “As a serving officer of DSS and having completed my duty tour with the last President, the service felt that I should give a briefing of my stewardship. Nigerians should be assured that DSS is a responsible organisation and I am sure that nothing adverse will happen to me once it is ascertained that I did nothing wrong.”
However, there are Indications that Obua and the former National Security Adviser, NSA, Colonel Sambo Dasuki would be arraigned in court this week. While Obua is being held by the Department of State Services, DSS, for alleged movement of large sums of “security money”, Dasuki has been accused of corruption and illegal possession of assault grade firearms. Five bullet-proof Mercedes Benz G Class SUVs were also seized by operatives of the SSS from his Abuja residence during a raid.
