Gunmen on Wednesday abducted a student of Arthur Jarvis University in the Akpabuyo local government area of Cross River State.
The student was kidnapped on Tuesday night on the school premises while returning from her night reading.
Some students, who witnessed the kidnapping, confirmed that the female student and her friends were coming from their night reading class before the suspected kidnappers accosted and whisked her away to an undisclosed place. Others who fled sustained various degrees of injuries.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Irene Ugbo, said the commissioner of police, Aminu Alhassan, has drafted the anti-kidnapping, anti-cultism, and dragon Units of the police to restore law and order and secure the kidnap victim. She disclosed that investigations have commenced about the attack.
In a press statement, the management of the institution also confirmed the incident, stating that security agencies are on the matter.
They however informed the public, staff, and students to disregard news that the school is under security threat.
The statement read: “The attention of Management of the institution has been drawn to the news of a security threat on campus. Please be informed that Management is on top of events and the security agencies are in control of the situation.
“All students and staff are please requested to remain calm and go about their normal duties. Kindly desist from circulating false information.”
