Ongoing crackdown on the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) strongholds has taken a controversial twist as Turkey on Tuesday shot down a Russian military plane on the Syrian border.
The war plane exploded in the air and the fireball fell on a Turkmen mountain on the Syrian side of the border, CNN-Turk and NTV televisions reported.
Although, a Turkish government official initially told AFP: “We are trying to identify the nationality of the plane”, Moscow has confirmed that the downed plane was Russian Su-24.
Russia also claimed the affected aircraft shot down by Turkey was in Syrian airspace when it was blown off the sky.
