A political organization, the Emenike Support Group, has decried the campaign of calumny against High Chief Ikechi Emenike, leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State.
The group’s spokesman, Ugochukwu Osuagwu, in a statement said “no amount of blackmail or insult will stop Chief Emenike from rescuing Abia State from the hands of political jobbers bent on keeping the state in perpetual backwardness.”
Reacting to an allegation by a faceless group which claimed that Chris Nkwonta, a former Abia South senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) was not well received by High Chief Emenike during his recent visit to the APC leader’s country home, Emenike Support Group described it as a tissue of lies. According to the group, Emenike, who is also Secretary, Contact and Strategy Committee of the APC at the national level, accorded Nkwonta warm reception in accordance with Igbo tradition.
The group also debunked the insinuation that Emenike is playing the script of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). It stated that rather than Emenike, it is Nkwonta who is playing the PDP script. According to the Emenike Support Group, Nkwonta had a few days “after visiting an APC leader, openly declared for the PDP.”
It described those making the unfounded allegations as fifth columnists working for Orji Uzor Kalu, a former governor of the State and his cohorts, who have been hobnobbing with the PDP.
The group said that respected High Chief Emenike is a staunch APC member who worked tirelessly to ensure that President Muhammadu Buhari emerged as the candidate of APC and the winner of the 2015 presidential election. It added that currently Emenike is focused on ensuring that APC forms the next government in Abia State in 2023 and rescues the state from years of PDP misrule and underdevelopment.
