THE Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is considering bye-elections and rerun elections across the country on Thursday, February 1, 2024, to fill state and federal legislature vacancies.
INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu disclosed this during a meeting with political party leaders to prepare for the upcoming elections.
After litigation, the courts have INEC to conduct rerun elections in 34 federal and state constituencies, including one Senate constituency, 11 federal constituencies, and 22 state constituencies.
The commission plans to hold bye-elections to fill vacancies created by member resignations or deaths, with an official election date and timetable to be announced after meeting party leaders.
