As Nigeria targets to grow gas reserves to 600 trillion cubic feet, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd (NNPCL) has said along with partners, there are key projects underway to boost gas utilisation.
The Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPCL, Mele Kyari, stated this yesterday at a session of the ongoing NIES in Abuja, noting that NNPC plays an active role in realizing the intended benefits of the Decade of Gas Initiatives as well as the National Gas Expansion Programme.
Kyari who was represented at the CEOs session by the Managing Director, Nigerian Gas Infrastructure Company Ltd, Seyi Omotowa, said: “The opportunities to be unlocked from the Decade of Gas are numerous with significant benefits for Nigeria. With over 200Tcf of natural gas reserves and a potential of growing to 600Tcf, there will be enough resources for the numerous gas utilization projects being developed by NNPC Ltd and its partners.”
He further said NNPCL is leveraging on the huge reserves to support growth in the power and industrial sectors, address energy poverty, reduce carbon-footprint and create more employment opportunities.
Kyari mentioned some of the NNPCL gas investments to include the Escravos Lagos Pipeline System (ELPS)-Ibadan-Ilorin-Jebba Pipeline (EJ), Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano Gas Pipeline, Qua Iboe-Obigbo OB3 Pipeline and the Obigbo-Umuahia-Ajaokuta Pipeline (CUA).
