Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini has confirmed that Nigeria international Ademola Lookman has been ruled out of Monday’s (today) Serie A clash against Fiorentina.
Gasperini disclosed this while speaking at the pre-match press conference ahead of the clash scheduled to hold at the Artemio Franchi, Firenze.
The 65-year-old tactician explained that the Super Eagles forward stopped training due to a small physical problem.
“There is no news compared to yesterday, let’s see with Pasalic if he will recover, Koopmeiners is better, he trained better. Lookman stopped by, it doesn’t seem like a big deal, but he won’t be there on Monday,” the veteran tactician said.
Lookman’s absence against La Viola will come as a big blow for the Blue-and-Blacks with the Nigerian expected to start.
Since joining from Leipzig during the summer transfer window, the 25-year-old has settled in perfectly in Italy and is currently Atalanta’s top goalscorer in Serie A this season with 13 goals and five assists in 28 games.
Gasperini will however hope Lookman’s injury is a minor one as expected as the club currently occupy sixth position in the Serie A and are still in the running for a place in the UEFA Champions League with just five points separating them from third-place Roma, who have 53 points.
