The Management of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has disclaimed the use of the name and office of the Group Managing Director, Dr Ibe Kachikwu, by some unscrupulous individuals for fraudulent purposes.
NNPC in a press statement signed by its Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, Mr Ohi Alegbe, in Abuja on Thursday said it has been alarmed by reports of activities of some fraudulent persons engaging unsuspecting members of the public, particularly stakeholders in the oil and gas industry.
Mr Alegbe explained that the fraudulent persons were using the deceptive strategy by promising their victims appointments with the GMD or facilitating procurement contracts and other business deals with the corporation.
“The NNPC and the GMD had not mandated any individual or group of individuals to represent the GMD or any of the corporation’s interests in any transactions outside the official process”, the statement clarified.
The spokesperson, however, advised the general public and stakeholders to ignore anyone or group of persons purporting to represent the NNPC or its GMD in any capacity to facilitate appointments or contracts of any kind.
The statements read in parts: “The new NNPC is transparent and follows due process and requires no intermediaries to procure contracts or engage in any business with it. “Anyone found to be engaged in such nefarious activities should be treated as an impostor.”
The corporation further warned that the full weight of the law would be brought on anyone caught using its name or Chief Executive Officer for fraudulent purposes.
