Enyimba Football Club has re-opened a two points gap at the summit of the Globacom Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) following a 1-0 victory against champions, Kano Pillars at the Enyimba Stadium, Aba on Wednesday.
A 29th minute spot kick converted by Ifeanyi George was all the six times champions could muster to end Pillars’ undefeated streak since the sacking of Okey Emordi and snatch the maximum points.
Following the triumph against the Masu Gida, Enyimba amassed 45 points from 24 matches, two points more than its rival, Sunshine Stars who lost 0-1 to Dolphins at the Port Harcourt Liberation Stadium to drop to second spot.
A Jonathan Zikiye superb free kick from 25 yards in the 56th minute gave Dolphins the much needed victory and maximum points that eased their relegation worries.
Elsewhere, Warri Wolves maintained third spot on the log following a scoreless draw against struggling El-Kanemi Warriors, while FC Taraba and Bayelsa United also ended their encounter on similar scoreless note.
Hard-fighting Abia Warriors suffered a 2-0 loss against Wikki Tourists at Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi. The Bauchi side dominated from start to end, with Mubarak Umar scoring a brace for the home team.
Heartland FC marked its return to Dan Anyima Stadium, Owerri on Match Day 24 with a 1-0 victory against Kwara United. Jimoh Oni’s 37th minute goal proved to be the difference between the Naze Millionaires and the Afonja Warriors.
