Nigeria’s equities market closed on a negative note Tuesday as All Share Index (ASI) depreciated by 0.6 per cent to close at 31,269.71 basis points compared with the 0.04 per cent depreciation recorded on Monday.

Evans Medical Plc for the 2nd day this week led 15 equity gainers with a gain of 9.88 per cent or 8 kobo to close at 89 kobo per share; while Conoil Plc led 27 on the losers table with a loss of 9.74 per cent of its share price or N3.59 to close at N33.28 per share.

Other gainers for the day are Flour Mill Plc which appreciated by 9.67 per cent or N2.60 to close at N29.50 while Berger Paints Plc rose 4.81 per cent or 48 kobo to close at N10.45 per share.

Conversely, Nigerian German Chemicals Plc declined by 9.65 per cent or 61 kobo to close at N5.71, while Eterna Plc dropped 9.42 per cent or 21 kobo to close at N2.02 per share.

Market turnover for the day stood at N2.9 billion from the sale 280.89 million shares exchanged in 3,715 deals, bringing market capitalization down by 0.6 per cent to 10.72 trillion.

UBA Plc led the list of top traders by volume in a sale of 89.4 million shares worth N363.4 million, followed by Access Bank Plc which sold 58. 94 million shares amounting to N279.3 million.  Zenith Bank Plc also sold 33.8 million shares valued at N562.6 million.

The NSE Banking Index appreciated by 0.45 per cent to close at 323.34 points as against the 1.2 per cent decline to close at 321.88 points recorded previously while the NSE Lotus Islamic index gained 0.27 per cent to close at 2,183.62 points compared to previous day’s rise of 0.4 per cent to close at 2,17.69 points.

On the other hand, the NSE Consumer Goods Index led the sectoral indices losers with a loss of 0.93 per cent to close at 759.13 followed by the NSE 30 index which dropped by 0.45 per cent to close at 1,410.35 points.

The NSE Industrial Index depreciated by 0.47 points to close at 2,300.86 points while the NSE Insurance and Pension Index  both lost 0.38 per cent to close 140.19 points and 946.13 points respectively.

NSE Oil and Gas Index declined by 0.33 per cent to close at 345.05 points as the Alternative securities Market Index closed the day’s transaction flat to remain at 1,210.13 points.
