High Chief Ikechi Emenike and other notable Nigerian were today in Abuja, inaugurated into governing councils of Federal Universities and Inter-University Centres by the Honourable Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu. Speaking during the inauguration, the Minister said that the federal government aims to reinvigorate governance through appropriate policies and guidance to the Institutions. Chief Emenike (Abia State) was inaugurated as Chairman, Governing Council of University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), others are institutions whose chairmen were also inaugurated are University Of Benin, Dr Sonny Kuku, Lagos State; Ahmadu Bello University Zaria; Malam Adamu Fika, (Yobe State); Federal University Of Petroleum Resources, Effurun, Prof Anthony Gozie Anwuka  (Imo State); And Bayero University Kano, Udoma Udo Udoma (Akwa Ibom State).

And Federal University Of Technology Minna, Prof Olu Obafemi, (Kogi State).

It could be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari had recently approved the appointment of Chancellors, Pro-Chancellors and Chairmen of Councils of the  42 Federal Universities across the country with the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, Sultan of Sokoto,  Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar,  Oba (Dr) Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III,  Alafin of Oyo, making the list.  

He has also approved the appointment of Pro-Chancellors and Chairmen of Councils of the twenty-three (23) Federal universities and four (4) Inter-University Centres. A former Executive Secretary of National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof Peter Okebukola, is re-appointed as Pro-chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council of National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).

Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, said this was part of efforts to strengthen the Institutions for effective service delivery for national development and global competitiveness. He said, “You will recall that following the approval of the President and Visitor to Federal Tertiary Institutions, I inaugurated Visitation Panels to all tertiary institutions in April 2021.

“The Panels are currently rounding off their assignments and will soon submit their Reports.

“You will also recall that I recently inaugurated the Governing Councils of Federal Polytechnics and Colleges of Education. The inauguration of Councils is intended to strengthen these Institutions for effective service delivery for national development and global competitiveness.
