Kano Pillars Football Club has sacked its chief coach, Okey Emordi over poor performance during the first stanza of its campaigns for various soccer contests.
Kano Pillars spokespersons, Idris Malikawa announced on Monday that Emordi’s dismissal was approved by the club’s board and that a meeting would be held later discuss a replacement.
Besides its shocking elimination from the CAF Champions League and the Nigerian Federations Cup in the first and 32 rounds respectively, Pillars have struggled in the league thus far, finishing the first half of the campaign with 27 points, nine points behind leaders Sunshine Stars and Enyimba and on the ninth position on the league table.
Emordi, who steered the Masu Gida to a third straight league title last season failed to meet the targets set for him by the club, and his fate was reportedly sealed with players and fans passing a vote of no confidence on him.
Emordi’s last game in charge of the team was a 3-3 draw with Lobi Stars in Makurdi on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje has also announced the sacking of board and Management of Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) champions and approved the appointment of a new board/management of the club with immediate effect.
In a statement signed by the Director General, Media and Communications to the Governor, Baba Dantiye, the governor said the new board/management has Kabiru Baita as Chairman with Abba Dambazau, Naziru Wapa, Garba Mohammed (Nawamba) and Hassan Garo as members while a representative of Kano State Sports Council, will serve as Secretary.
The governor thanked the sacked board and management for the services they rendered to the club. “By this statement both the General Manager and the Technical Adviser have also been relieved of their appointments,” the statement read.
