Controversial Governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose has taken his populist appeal to another level with sharing of photographs of his palm wine drinking session with local residents on his twitter page. “At home with my people at a Palm Wine Joint at Omisanjana area of Ado Ekiti today. Works and no play,” the Governor tweeted 9:29 on July 9, 2015.
The 54-year-old PDP chieftain defeated the then Governor Kayode Fayemi in controversial June 21, 2014 poll to stage a come-back to power after his first tenure between May 29, 2003 to October 16, 2006 which ended through impeachment. Fayose’s political resurgence and return to power is largely attributed to his grassroots politicking which makes him to often hang out with local folks.
Despise controversies trailing his political career, which came to notoriety during the last general elections when he sponsored several hate campaigns as well as engaged the APC in a clandestine war, Fayose has remained one of the most popular political chieftains of the PDP and an executive governor who is always at home with the grassroots.
