In its bid to boost efforts at ensuring that wastes generated by vessels at the seaports do not litter the nation’s waterways, the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has commissioned five garbage trucks in Tin Can Island Port. African Circle Pollution Management Limited procured the trucks under a joint venture arrangement between the company and NPA.
The acquisition of the trucks was in line with the provisions of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) code on marine pollution to which Nigeria is a signatory. Executive Director, Marine and Operations, Engr. David Omonibeke said NPA as a responsible corporate entity remains committed to safety of the nation’s waterways in line with the transformation agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.
Omonibeke thanked President Jonathan for his support to the authority and promised that the present management of the NPA led by Mallam Habib Abdullahi would continue to promote the Nigerian economy through the maritime sector.
