The Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has described as false the power the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Iyorchia Ayu, claimed to have to stop his senatorial aspiration.
Senator Ayu, in Gboko, his country home, claimed to have the power as PDP national chairman to stop anyone from pursuing their elective office if he so desired.
Reacting to this development, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Ortom, Nathaniel Ikyur, said the National Chairman does not have the power to invoke a mandate freely given by party delegates.
“If he had the power, why didn’t he do it then? Does he (Ayu) have the power to invoke the process already conducted and passed by delegates? When probed further to explain,” Ikyur declined.
