Sierra Leone defender Osman Kakay says the team is fully prepared for Thursday’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Nigeria.
The Leone Stars put up a respectable showing at the 2021 AFCON finals in Cameroon, their first appearance since the 1996 edition in South Africa.
John Keister’s men are keen to make a return to the biennial competition and have Nigeria, Guinea-Bissau, and Sao Tome and Principe to contend with in Group A of the qualifiers.
The West Africans will begin their quest for a place in Cote d’Ivoire 2023 with an away fixture against the Super Eagles at the MoshoodAbiola Stadium, Abuja.
The Leone Stars arrived in Abuja on Sunday and have been perfecting strategies for the game.
Kakay hinted that the players are in good spirit and are looking forward to facing the Super Eagles.
”The boys are in good spirit, we are preparing for the games against Nigeria and Guinea-Bissau. There’s been talks going round misrepresenting what I’ve said but I’m a professional footballer I respect every opponent I play against,” the Queens Park Rangers defender stated in a short video posted on the Twitter handle of the Sierra Leone Football Association.
“Hopefully, me and the team can go out there and put our hearts on the line for Sierra Leone and give the fans back home what they want.”
