The Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, yesterday urged the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu to tell her husband, President Bola Tinubu that Nigerians are suffering due to the economic hardship in the country.
The monarch gave the message when he received Senator Tinubu, who paid him homage at the palace on her way to the commissioning of a building named after her at the Faculty of Law, Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria, MAAUN, in Kano.
Noting that the challenges were inherited, Bayero, nevertheless urged President Tinubu to redouble efforts to ease the economic hardship and tackle insecurity in the country.
The Kano monarch spoke as Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, called on the 36 governors and chairmen of the 774 local government areas to as a matter of urgency release grains to the people as part of moves to cushion the pains Nigerians are going through.

Bayero said: “Although, we have several means of communicating to the government on our needs and requests, you are the surest way to tell the President the happenings in the country.
“We get information daily that essential commodities and cost of living are high and people are suffering. Although it didn’t start with this government, we know Tinubu’s government is making efforts but it should redouble it to ease the suffering faced by the people.
Combating insecurity
“The issue of Insecurity is another serious problem we are facing. I know your government inherited it but something more seriously should be done to take care of the threats.
“We are receiving a series of messages from our people on talks about relocation of CBN and FAAN to Lagos, I think the government should revisit it.
“Do more enlightenment on this matter. I cannot tell the intentions of the government, we should be able to understand the relocation of the CBN and FAAN offices now to Lagos.”
My husband means well for Nigerians – Senator Tinubu
Earlier, Senator Oluremi Tinubu called on Nigerians to bear with her husband’s administration over the current economic challenges, expressing optimism that things would be better as the president means well for the country.
She appreciated the rousing welcome given to her by the Kano State Government, expressing delight about the cheers she received from the school children who assembled by the roadside waving at her en route to the Emir’s palace.
Release grains to people, Senate tells govs, LG chairmen
Meanwhile, Deputy Senate President Jibrin has hailed President Tinubu for ordering the release of 102,000 tonnes of rice, maize, millet and others to address the high cost of food in the country and urged governors and council chairmen to urgently release grains to the people.
The Federal Government through the Special Presidential Committee on Emergency Food Intervention, headed by the Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, on Thursday, ordered the release of 102,000 tonnes of grains to Nigerians.
Jibrin, in a statement by his Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, said that the move would go a long way in cushioning the effects of the rising cost of commodities in the country.
Senator Jibrin, who disclosed that in the coming days he would distribute rice to 200,000 households as part of his contributions to address the challenge, said” “At this trying period, we should all support the Federal Government to address the challenges our country is currently facing. As we all know, the rising cost of food is a global phenomenon and our country is not unaffected by it.
“It is against this background, that I implore states and local governments to distribute food items to those in need across the country to cushion the effects of the rise in cost of food items.”
