Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu’s future at the Belgian Jupiler Pro League with Genk looks uncertain as Belgian giants KRC Genk are closing in on signing Nigerian youngster and Slavia Prague forward Yira Sor.
Genk could announce the completion of the transfer as soon as January 1, the opening day of the winter transfer window.
HBVL, a Danish online media outlet, reports that Prague have accepted a €6.5million offer for the Nigerian youngster. The deal is expected to be completed and announced within the next few days.
The 22-year-old striker has scored two goals in nine appearances for Prague in the current 2022/23 campaign and reportedly landed in Genk where he is to undergo medical tests.
Sor has been on the radar of The Smurfs since the summer. The Belgians were willing to break their transfer record to secure the Nigerian youngster as a replacement for Onuachu who has been linked with a move away from the club in January.
Genk have enjoyed a flying start to the league campaign, thanks largely to the goals of the Super Eagles forward.
Onuachu, who joined Genk in 2019 from FC Midtjylland where he netted 74 goals in 181 matches, has scored 14 goals in 16 games across all competitions in the 2022/23 season and has attracted interest from many clubs.
But the Nigeria international has played down speculation linking him with a departure from Genk when the January transfer window reopens insisting that he is happy at the Belgian Pro League club.
The Nigerian striker recently revealed that it was difficult leaving Genk as there were no concrete offers for him despite reports linking him with moves to Aston Villa, Southampton and Atletico Madrid.
Speaking about his future, the 28-year-old said, “Who knows? Anything can happen in football. But I’m still really happy at KRC Genk, and I don’t necessarily want to move on.
