President Buhari has said that he is keeping decision on lifting the ban on Twitter to himself adding that the decision will be made known at the appropriate time. He made this known during an exclusive interview on ‘The Morning Show’ on Arise TV declined to be particular when questioned about the resumption of the microblogging site in Nigeria.
“I will keep that to myself,” Buhari responded.
In a statement last week, Minister of information and Tourism Lai Mohammed had announced the indefinite suspension of Twitter’s operations in Nigeria.
He stated that the government was forced to act because of “the persistent use of the platform for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence.”
Suspension of the social media service has continued to spark widespread outrage with many Nigerians, condemning the move.
Meanwhile, defiant Nigerians have continued to bypass the restrictions by using Virtual Private Networks(VPNs) to access their accounts.
