A faction of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, yesterday, appealed to All Progressives Congress (APC) not to present any Igbo Senator, who has cases with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), as Senate President, noting that such plot could smear the image of the administration and present Igbo in bad light.

In a statement, in Abakaliki, the Secretary General of the faction, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, noted that there has been suspicion over alleged plots to foist a Senate President from the zone that will rock the Bola Tinubu presidency, adding that Ohanaeze will resist it.

He noted that those, who are involved in such plot, should desist, urging the forthcoming 10th Senate to adopt legitimate measures to ensure emergence of reliable leadership of the Senate, including the doctrine of necessity option.

He maintained that South East does not need hatchet men of certain governors, who, as Senate President, would be misrepresenting Igbo in favour of their masters.

Isiguzoro said many senators and senators-elect are already jostling for the position of the Senate President, of which caution should be exercised to ensure that those who would ferment troubles among various tiers of government are not allowed to occupy the position.

He further stated that they are aware of capacities of their sons, including those who had been in the Senate before now.

He advocated the need for the doctrine of necessity such that some House rules could be reversed, paving way for the best for the Senate President to emerge not minding if he/she is a greenhorn.”

It said: “Umahi fits into this. When some politicians were pursuing selfish interests, Umahi, who is currently the Senator-elect for Ebonyi South Senatorial District, took his people into the mainstream of Nigerian politics, like he saw tomorrow.”
