Former Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II says Nigerians should stop cursing and shaming the leaders over the hardship faced in the country. The former Emir made this known in Sokoto, while addressing Tijjaniyya adherents from seven states of the North-West geopolitical zone, a movement which he leads.
The former Central Bank of Nigeria’s governor advised that instead of cursing leaders, Nigerians and Tijjaniyya adherents should be prayerful.
He also warned against disobedience to constituted authorities, noting that things should be done in accordance with the law.
Sanusi said, “What is expected of us now is patience, fervent prayers and we must stand up to get things better in our own way through legitimate ways.
“We must desist from abusing or cursing our leaders over hardship because the Holy Prophet discouraged that.
“We shall not involve ourselves in corrupt practices and other atrocities because our religion preaches against it.
“We must change for the better and remain committed to peace and development of our societies.”
The Islamic leader urged members of the sect to be politically active as the 2023 election approaches.
”When you are approached during elections, you need to ask for recognition in terms of school construction, health facility and other services,” Sanusi added.
