In what appears to be an unending battle of supremacy raging between the former governor of Ekiti State, Mr Ayo Fayose and his erstwhile deputy and former lawmaker, Senator Biodun Olujimi, the People’s Democratic Party State Congess in Ekiti State ended with two different factions loyal to the two political heavyweights emerging.
The faction loyal to former governor Ayo Fayose held its parallel congress at the Petim Hotel where Bisi Kolawole, a former honourable member of the state’s house of assembly emerged as the factional chairman. In similar vein, the faction loyal to Senator Biodun Olujimi held theirs at Lotus Hotel, Ado Ekiti and a former member of the House of Representatives, Kehinde Odebunmi emerged the factional chairman.
While Ayo Fayose and Senator Biodun Olujimi bicker over who is the party’s authentic leader in the state, many observers believe the next stage of the battle would be to get the endorsement of the party’s NWC. As a former governor, Ayo Fayose is leaving no stone unturned in his bid to secure his party’s NWC’s recognition for his faction.
On the other hand, Senator Biodun Olujimi is pulling all strings within her disposal to ensure her faction gets the nod of the PDP’s national body. Many political watchers argue that the dispute may not be unconnected with their clandestine moves for the 2023 general elections and beyond.
