Chadian Football Federation (Fédération Tchadienne de Football, FTF) has employed former Cameroon international and skipper, Rigobert Song to take charge of its senior male national team, Les Sao, following the sacking of its poorly performing French coach Emmanuel Tregoat.
With the Chadian team currently occupying bottom of Group G in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, alongside Egypt, Nigeria and Tanzania, the country’s football authority has turned to the two-time AFCON winning Cameroonian captain to salvage their bid. Les Sao of Chad has never qualified for the World Cup finals or Africa Cup of Nations and sees the current campaign as another opportunity too precious to throw away.
Song, who has a record 137 caps for Cameroon making his début in 1993 and played in eight AFCONS between 1996-2010, will now be in full charge of the team when the qualifiers resume in March next year and would face his crucial test when Les Sao confront Tanzania in Dar Es Salaam.
