The bodies of two female victims who were involved in a boat mishap in the creeks in Ojo Local Government Area of Lagos State were yet to be recovered.
The boast tragedy occurred on Saturday evening at about 20:00 hrs.
The motorised boat was reportedly carrying 10 passengers, including the ladies whose remains were still being searched for.
The Managing Director, Lagos Waterways Authority (LASWA), Olayinka Marinho, confirmed the incident, adding that the bodies of the two ladies were yet to be recovered.
Marinho explained that soon after the incident, eight of the 10 passengers in the ill-fated boat were immediately rescued by passengers in an accompanying boat.
He added that the driver of the ill-fated boat would be prosecuted whenever he was arrested, saying that he ran away after the incident.
Marinho said that the boat has been recovered and impounded in the LASWA yard, adding that the authority’s patrol team was still carrying out the search and rescue operation for the bodies of the two female passengers who were still missing.
He warned boat operators to always abide by the rules governing maritime transportation.
“They should always ensure that their passengers wear life jackets before embarking on a journey on the waterways and there is no night travel or boating under the influence of alcohol,” he said.
