The Leone Stars of Sierra Leone at the weekend arrived in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja for Thursday’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Super Eagles.
Three-time African champions Super Eagles will entertain the Sierra Leoneans at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
According to the Sierra Leone Football Association on Twitter, the players and their officials departed Conakry, where they had their last training session in the first phase of their camping.
The full delegation departed Guinea Saturday, en route Lome for Abuja tomorrow. Sierra Leone Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, Anna Betty Moussa, joined other diplomatic staff to receive the team on Saturday evening at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja.
Head coach, John Keister, had named 25 players for the game and the match-day two encounter against the Djurtus of Guinea-Bissau.
The Sierra Leoneans started preparation for the game midweek in Conakry and will have another four days in Nigeria to put finishing touches to their tactics ahead of the crucial fixture.
Keister’s side held the Super Eagles 4-4 in Benin City and 0-0 in Freetown in qualifiers for the 2021 AFCON, the last time both sides met in 2020.
Meanwhile, the Eagles rounded off their recent United States tour with two defeats to Mexico and Ecuador.
They lost 2-1 to Mexico in the first friendly game in Dallas, before succumbing to a 1-0 defeat to Ecuador in New Jersey.
