A group of northern youths under the aegis of North-East Youth Peace Development & Empowerment Initiative (NEYPDEI) has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari and the National Assembly to urgently confirm the appointment of Acting Chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Ibrahim Mustapha Magu.
In a statement by the National President, NEYPDEI, Kyari Idris Abubakar, he explained that the immediate confirmation of Magu would impact positively on the ongoing war against corruption.
“We are convinced beyond all doubts that the confirmation of Mr. Magu who led a successful investigations against some profile politicians when he was head of Economic Governance Unit of the anti-graft agency would lead to successful war against corruption,” he said.
Abubakar added that the recent promise by Magu to revisit the trial of some former governors whose prosecution and trials were stalled by some technicalities confirmed his believe that his tenure as EFCC boss would bring more results in the fight against corruption and other crimes in the country.
He urged President Buhari to expedite action on the confirmation of the Kanuri-born Assistant Commissioner of Police as EFCC Chairman without further delay.
“Magu’s achievements since he joined the anti-graft agency during the time of former Chairman of EFCC, Nuhu Ribadu is legendary and we believe he has the pedigree to champion a new course for the fight against corruption in the country,” he said.
Abubakar promised the support of the north-east youths in the success of Magu’s new assignment.
