The Super Falcons are set to, once again, prove their superiority as they play Cape Verde in a return leg encounter.

The Falcons arrived in Cape Verde’s capital, Praia on Sunday morning, and have had two training sessions at the match venue, Santiago-Estádio Nacional Cabo Verde, on Sunday and Monday evening.

Having won the first leg 5-0 in Abuja, the Falcons only need to avoid defeat to book their 13th WAFCON ticket, a competition Nigeria has won a record nine times.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Football Federation has hailed the mental toughness of midfielder Peace Efih in helping the Super Falcons close in on securing a 2024 WAFCON ticket despite losing her mother two days before Nigeria beat Cape Verde 5-0 in Abuja last Thursday.

Efih lost her mother on Tuesday but the player didn’t show any sign of grief with her solid display in midfield as the Falcons put one leg in the 2024 WAFCON which will take place in Morocco.

Ahead of the return leg in Praia on Tuesday (today), president of the Nigeria Football Federation, Ibrahim Gusau, saluted the player’s toughness.

“The loss of a parent is a calamity, a thing of sadness and sorrow. Many other persons would have cracked and packed bags to leave the camp to go and mourn, but Peace decided it was better to honour her mother’s memory with a great performance that has taken the team closer to another appearance at the Women AFCON. She deserves our praise,” Gusau said.

Braces from Uchenna Kanu and Esther Okoronkwo with another goal from Monday Gift saw Nigeria secure the comfortable first leg win at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.

Today’s return leg encounter will begin at 4pm Cape Verde time 6pm Nigeria time today with Liberian official Sylvina Welma Garnett as referee.

CAF has also appointed Hannah Moses (Liberian) as assistant referee 1, while Sierra Leoneans Precious Amara and Humu Marah will serve as assistant referee 2 and fourth official respectively.

Oumou Souleymane Kane from Mauritania will serve as commissioner while Fadouma Dia from Senegal will be the referee assessor.
