Prof. Benedict Oramah, President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) says the Bank supports CANEX Prize for Publishing in Africa to recognize African talent and ensure its support.

At the IATF2023 in Cairo, Egypt, Oramah emphasized the need for a local platform to recognize African talent and prevent competition from other jurisdictions.

Prof. Oramah stated that Afreximbank aimed to establish an African publishing award equivalent to global awards.

Chimamanda Adichie, renowned novelist, and Eghosa Imaseun, publisher of Narrative Landscape Press, launched the CANEX Prize for Publishing in Africa in partnership with Creative African Nexus and Afreximbank.

Ms. Adichie said that CANEX is about “hope – the hope of many more African stories. “According to her, CANEX aims to promote African stories through a team of experienced judges reviewing creative works of fiction and non-fiction, focusing on writing, editing, and production quality.

The inaugural winner of the yearly prize, awarded to the publisher of the best African fiction or non-fiction publication, will be honored during CANEX WKND in 2024.

The CANEX Prize for Publishing in Africa is a strategic intervention program under CANEX Book Factory, aimed at enhancing the African book value chain and capacity.

CANEX Book Factory promotes sustainable business practices, literary culture, and African writing and book industry players through annual workshops and quarterly newsletters.
