An Onitsha-based importer and businessman, Ikechukwu Ezeanyagu, has died in his room after he allegedly lost N36 million to his business partner living abroad.
Ezeanyagu reportedly remitted the money to his business partner who refused to send the goods he paid for. The incident happened at Nwaora Street in Awada layout in Onitsha, Anambra State where he resided with his wife.
It was gathered that Ezeanyagu remitted the money to his partner to send some spare parts and other goods to him in Nigeria but waited for several months without any response from his friend.
When Ezeanyagu contacted him, he reportedly told him that he used the money to trade in hard drugs from another country and the business failed.
The partner pleaded with Ezeanyagu to bear the loss as he had already incurred heavy debts abroad.
It was gathered that after Ezeanyagu received the call, his body became bloated and he went inside his bedroom where he was later found dead by his wife.
The late Ezeanyagu hailed from Akukwa village in Umuchu town in Aguata local government area, while his partner is from Achina town also in the local government area.
His corpse has been deposited at the Visitation Hospital mortuary pending when he will be buried.
Another Igbo business man, Chigozie Ezeanyagu, based in Lagos, also died recently in similar circumstances after he was duped, losing N21 million.
