…Vows to dismiss under-performing players
Flying Eagles head coach, Ladan Bosso has stated that winning the 2023 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations in Egypt remains his priority.
The Flying Eagles are among the favourites to win the competition after claiming the WAFU B title in Niger Republic last May.
The U-20 AFCON will also serve as the qualifiers for the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup hosted by Indonesia later in the year.
“We won the WAFU qualifiers in Niger Republic and it’s my wish that we go to the World Cup in Indonesia as the champions of Africa,” Bosso told reporters in Abuja.
“That aside, I want to make amends for the 2007 not-pleasant performance of the Flying Eagles. I want to improve on it by going all the way, “ he added.
Meanwhile, report says that Bosso will soon wield the big stick on players, who have put up below-par showing in the team’s training.
The team resume camping for the 2023 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations in Abuja on Monday.
35 players are currently jostling for a place in the team.
The invited foreign-based professionals are expected to link up with their teammates in camp next week.
However, some of the players have failed to impress the technical crew and will be asked to leave camp soon.
Bosso is expected to submit his final 21-man list for the competition by January 20.
The team will embark on a training tour of Morocco at the end of this month.
The seven-time champions will face hosts Egypt, Mozambique and Senegal in the group stage of the competition.
