All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders in Nasarawa State have endorsed former Governor and Senator representing Nasarawa South Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, for the position of National Chairman of the party. The stakeholders are members of a political group, Progressives For Umaru Tanko Al-Makura.

Speaking during a Press Conference on Monday in Lafia, the Convener of the group, Makpa Malla, explained that the endorsement was aimed at leaving no citizen of the country in doubt that they were solidly behind Al-Makura to emerge victorious in the forthcoming Extra-ordinary National Convention of the party.

He said, “Senator Tanko Al-Makura is not only a son of Nasarawa, he is also a nationalist whose legacies and achievements in leadership are worthy of replication on a wider scale. We believe that this step taken today would pave way for the eventual emergence of Al-Makura as National Chairman of our party.”

He appealed to the leadership of the party at the National level and other party leaders across the 36 states in the country to consider zoning the office of the national chairman to the North Central and make efforts to ensure that the former governor emerges victorious for the progress of the party.

“We are appealing to the entire leadership structure of our great party that in it’s much anticipated guideline for the forthcoming Extra-ordinary National Convention, to consider zoning the office of the national chairman of the party to the north central, due to the strategic position the zone occupies in the political permutation of the country,” he added.

Al-Makura had on 4th October this year, declared to contest for the position of National Chairman of the APC and promised to do everything within his powers to ensure the progress of the party if elected into office.

Our correspondent reports that party leaders and stalwarts ranging from representatives of the State Working Committee, Local Government Working Committees, Ward Officials from across the state, serving and former officeholders and elder statesmen graced the event.
