Gunmen have invaded Pangu community, in the Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State, killing five mobile policemen.
The hoodlums also burnt the community’s primary health care centre and two vehicles belonging to the policemen during the attack.
According to sources from the community, the bandits invaded the town on Tuesday on motorcycles and shot continuously to scare people away.
It was gathered that the assailants opened fire on the mobile policemen after they tried to stop them, which led to the death of the five cops. The bodies of the deceased were reportedly taken to the IBB Specialist Hospital mortuary.
The Niger State Commissioner for Information, Mohammed Idris, while fielding questions from journalists, refused to confirm or deny the attack.
He said, “There have been attacks here and there.”
Also, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, could not be reached for confirmation of the attack and death of the policemen.
