smuggling of frozen poultry products

The Nigeria Customs Service (NSC) has made seizures worth N28, 660,717 in the third week of its fight against smuggling of frozen poultry products tagged Operation Hawk Descend.

The seizures which consist of 5,915 cartons of frozen poultry product, mostly conveyed in commercial vehicles was confiscated by Customs Officers around the South Western area of the country which consist of Badagry Creeks, Seme axis and Idiroko axis of Ogun State.

The breakdown of the seizures showed that Ogun State Command of Customs seized 2,800 cartons, the Federal Operation Unit, 2,561carons, the Western Marine Command, 455 cartons and the Seme Command – 99 cartons.

While commending the efforts of the operatives, the Comptroller-General of Customs, Dikko Inde Abdullahi, stressed the need for the smugglers to desist from such acts that have negative consequences on the economy of the nation.

He further stated the commitment of the Service in bringing the activity of the smugglers to its barest minimum. The CGC called on the Poultry Association of Nigeria to give useful information and other forms of assistance that will further help the operatives to achieve the goal of completely crippling poultry smuggling into Nigeria.
