The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) says it has successfully repaired the System 2B Pipeline vandalized on July 21 at the swampy terrain of Arepo, in Ogun State.
“The vital System 2B Pipeline, which was breached at Arepo last week, has been fixed and brought back on stream. Pumping of products through the system began on Monday upon the successful completion of repair,” NNPC announced in a statement signed by its Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division NNPC, Mr Ohi Alegbe on Wednesday in Abuja.
According to the statement, NNPC engineers, who were deployed in the scene of the incident, were able to access the pipeline after the fire was extinguished and carried out repair on the breached portion immediately. The national oil firm also cautioned the perpetrators of the constant pipeline vandalism which costs the nation billions of naira annually to desist or face the full penalty. “Those engaged in vandalism should desist from the act in order to avoid the consequences. Those engaged in the criminal acts of pipeline sabotage and oil theft should stop, so as to save themselves from the resultant horrendous deaths,” NNPC said in the statement.
