Dr. Shamsudeen Usman, former Minister of National Economic Planning, is hopeful that the renewed economic partnership between Nigeria and the United States would boost economic growth and lead to the recovery of stolen funds kept in foreign banks.
Usman, who had also served as minister of finance and former deputy governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, also said the cooperation would also strengthen the Federal Government’s fight against corruption and insurgency.
Usman said this during a two-day intensive training programme organized in Lagos for officials of the Lagos State Government by Susman and Associates Limited. “The commitment of the United States Government to help us fight corruption, recover some of the looted funds that have been looted and taken out of the country and insurgency, is tremendous. The commitment is also towards greater legal cooperation in a number of areas like training of security personnel, especially provision of security intelligence information and even areas like oil theft. Really, it is a fantastic opportunity to take advantage of the strength of the United States to help the government,” Usman said.
