A suspected armed robber, Ibrahim Fatai, who has been allegedly terrorising residents of Obada-Oko in the Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State, has been arrested by men of the state police command. The suspect, popularly known as Emir, was alleged to have on Wednesday violently dispossessed one Tijani Sodiq of N120,000 and two bags of rice on Araromi Street, Obada-Oko. The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday. Oyeyemi said after the incident, the suspect was sighted by the victim, who quickly alerted the police.
According to Oyeyemi, upon the information, the Divisional Police Officer, Obada-Oko Division, CSP Bernard Ediogboyan, mobilised his patrol team and moved to the scene, where the suspect was arrested.
The PPRO stated, “The suspect, in the process of robbing his victim, inflicted a grievous injury on his right wrist. “Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect, who is a leading member of the Eiye Confraternity, led hoodlums, who vandalised the Obada-Oko Divisional Police Headquarters on October 21, 2020 during the #EndSARS protest. “The suspect has confessed to many cult-related fracas in Obada-Oko and its environs.”
Oyeyemi added that the Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun, had ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to state Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation.
He said the police boss also directed that efforts should be made to apprehend the remaining members of the gang in order to put an end to their nefarious activities in the area.
