Surveyor General of the Federation (SGoF), Surv. Samuel Adeniran Taiwo has recommended physical and mental exercises for surveyors to stay healthy always. The SGoF gave the recommendation at the closing ceremony of the 2020 Sports Week of the Office of the Surveyor General of the Federation (OSGoF) held recently in Abuja.

Surv. Taiwo explained that OSGoF management gave approval for the sports week in order to refresh the physical and mental capacities of the members of management and staff of the Office. He added that the week was also expected to make the staff imbibe team spirit and love amongst themselves hence sports has since been identified as a unifying factor.

As a sports enthusiast, he pledged to continue to support sports activities for the Office, as he commended the Department of Human Resource Management (DHRM) and sports officials of OSGoF for the successes recorded by the participation and commitment of the staff while the week lasted.

Earlier, the Director of the DHRM, OSGoF, Mr. Austin Abegunde was of the opinion that the sports activities engaged in the week would improve the thinking faculties of the staff and enhance their general wellbeing.

Abegunde congratulated the winners of the various games played and the participants in general as well as the SGoF for his gracious approval to hold the sports week.

Highlights of the ceremony was the presentation of prizes to winners of various categories (male and female) in the games of table tennis (doubles and singles), chess, draught, scrabble and ayo.

The Department of Special Duties Surveys was declared the overall winner after claiming 11 medals; 5 gold medals, 3 silver, and 3 bronze medals followed by the Department of Photogrammetry and Remote-Sensing with 4 medals; 2 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medal. Geodesy Department occupied the 3rd position having cleared 5 medals; 1 gold, 3 silver, and 1 bronze medal.

The SGoF was decorated as grand patron of OSGoF Sports Team along with the Director of DHRM, Mr. Abegunde; Director Survey Coordination, Surv. Godwin Uzoma; Director Geospatial Engineering, Surv. Ann Akpoyoware; Director, Internal Boundary, Surv. Yemi Adebomehin; and the DD Finance and Accounts, Mr. Austin Ori as patrons for their personal interest and support to the team.

The event was witnessed by the National President of Federal Public Service Games (FEPSGA) represented by an Ex-Officio of FEPSGA, Mr. Emmanuel Chukwu; the National Treasurer, Mr. Christian Onwuegbuna; and the Sports Manager of the National Commission for Museum and Monuments, Surv. Ehis Okonigene.
