The Endsars protest nationwide appears to have taken a different turn.

Recall that the commencement of the protests was met with a groundswell of support by people who felt the youths were on a just cause to draw attention to the incessant cases of Police brutality, extra judicial killings and extortion.

With the recent trend of events, however, the support base is beginning to deplete.

If the obstruction of movements on major roads of Abuja and other cities in Nigeria have been described as condemnable by prominent members of the administration, the violence unleashed on some parts of Benin, the liberation of prisoners in a minimum security correctional centre, the molestation of innocent members of the community as well as the burning of a car mart in the Apo area of Abuja yesterday have led to strident calls for the immediate stoppage of the street protests.

Some residents of Abuja who spoke to economyonline on the issue, suggested that the government takes deliberate steps to halt the street action before it degenerates to state of a anarchy.

Since the movement appears organic and apparently without identifiable leadership others urged the original people behind the movement to use their unique channels to call off the movement since hoodlums appear to have invaded their ranks and taken over action. Furthermore, they say, the Federal and State Governments have shown a determination to act on their demands.

While waiting for the next line of action, residents of Abuja and other cities in Nigeria also wait for information that may guide them in planning their movements for the day.
