Nigeria Football Federation has released the 2015 Federations (FA) Cup Men’s Round 32 and Women’s Round 16 Fixtures.
The men’s Federation Cup fixture pitched four premier League clubs against each other for a spot in the round of 16. For instance, Heartland and Sharks, Gabros and Bayelsa would battle for two slots respectively while other top NPFL clubs like Kano Pillars, Enyimba, Rangers and Wikki Tourists as well as Dolphins would fancy their chances of advancing to the next round with lower league opponents to contend with. A total of sixteen matches will take place at designated venues across the country.
The Round of 64 produced some cupsets when a relatively un-known non-league side, Kukuruku Dragons of Edo State knocked out Premier League high-fliers Giwa FC. Both teams finished 2-2 at the Bako Kontagora Stadium in Minna, before the Edo boys won a pulsating penalty shoot-out 7-6 to sail into the Round of 32.
Delta State representatives, J. Atete also caused sensation by eliminating NPFL table-leader, Sunshine Stars of Akure 3-1 in Benin City. Nigeria National League side, Plateau United also ended the aspiration of another Premier League club, Shooting Stars with a 1-0 victory at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba.
