Everton have agreed a fee of £25m plus add-ons for Norwich City central defender Ben Godfrey.
The fee is a record received by the Canaries, eclipsing the previous mark of £20m – plus £4m in add-ons – from Leicester for James Maddison in 2018.
Everton had an offer of about £20m, with £6m in add-ons, rejected before increasing their bid.
Godfrey, 22, is set to have a medical in the next 24 hours and personal terms are not expected to be a problem.
Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti wants to increase his options in defence following injuries to Mason Holgate and JarradBranthwaite.
Godfrey joined Norwich in 2016 from York City for £150,000 and played a key part in their promotion to the Premier League in 2018-19.
He made 30 top-flight appearances last season as the Canaries were relegated back to the Championship.
York City are in line to receive about £2.5m as part of the switch, having negotiated a sell-on clause as part of his move to Carrow Road.
Godfrey is set to become Everton’s fifth signing of the summer after midfielders Allan and AbdoulayeDoucoure, playmaker James Rodriguez and young left-back NielsNkounkou.
Norwich were braced for bids for Godfrey during the summer and added defender Ben Gibson from Burnley on a season-long loan deal to provide cover.
Godfrey’s expected departure leaves Gibson, Grant Hanley, Christoph Zimmerman and TimmKlose as the Carrow Road side’s centre-back options.
