The Coordinator, Presidential Amnesty Programme, Col Miland Dikio, Rtd, says his administration is changing the negative narratives and misconceptions about the Niger Delta, in order to attract businesses and investment to the region.

The Amnesty boss explained that keeping the region peaceful was not enough, but attracting businesses that would keep the youths gainfully engaged, will dissuade restiveness in the oil rich region.

Dikio speaking to newsmen through his media aide, Mr Neota Obasi, regretted that there were several misconceptions of insecurity and restiveness about the region, assuring that PAP seeks to correct the misconception.

“The narrative of the Niger Delta, particularly the information from the Presidential Amnesty Programme should create opportunities for the region, not just to keep the region peaceful but to attract businesses and investments to the region.

“Once investments are attracted to the region, our youths will be gainfully employed and there will be no room for restiveness.

“People believe that the region is so insecure.”

The Amnesty boss solicited for the support and collaboration of the media to make PAP succeed in its quest to rebrand the region, announcing that Amnesty Office would collaborate with the government at all levels to build the Niger Delta people.

“Journalism should remain a tool to change the society.

“Col. Miland Dikio Rtd. believes the Niger Delta region should be the best place to live and do business. We need to begin to see possibilities in our environment.

“Every individual in the Niger Delta region should rise up and make the difference.”
