Sunshine Stars of has leapfrogged high-riding Giwa FC at the summit of Nigeria Professional Football League after week eight round of matches following a two-zero defeat of Shooting Stars at Akure Township stadium on Sunday.

A second half goals from Tunji Adeniji and Dele Olorundare, 60th and 67 minutes respectively ensured that the Ondo state club took its second maximum three points in days and tally to 16 points in eight games.

The second placed Giwa FC battled Enyimba to a goaless scoreline in Aba with the games between Akwa United and Wikki Tourist as well as Lobi Stars versus El-Kanemi Warriors also ending in barren draws. Warri Wolves produced the biggest score-line of the weekend with a 4-1 thumping of Nasarawa United in Warri, while defending champions, Kano Pillars beat Sharks 2-0.

Ezekiel Mbah and Adamu Hassan scored second-half goals for Pillars to ease pressure on coach Okey Emordi and ensure that the Dan Masugida remains unbeatn at the Sani Abacha Stadium in 193rd home league games.

The tie between FC Taraba and Gabros, Bayelsa United and Dolphin ended 3-3 and 2-2 respectively while Rangers scored a late goal to hand Heartland a second defeat in four days.
