Awoniyi-HUN

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles has qualified for the knockout round of the 2015 Under 20 FIFA World Cup after beating Hungary 2-0 in the final Group E match.

Braces from striker Taiwo Awoniyi in the 33rd and 54th minutes gave Nigeria the maximum three points against their European opponents.

The African champions would now play the Champions of Europe, Germany in Christchurch for a Quarter-finals berth in the Round of 16 on Thursday.

The Flying Eagles qualified as runners up in Group E with six points from three matches behind Brazil, who won the group with maximum nine points. Interestingly, all African teams at the FIFA U-20 World Cup made it to the knock-out stage.

While Nigeria faces an uphill task against a formidable and technically superior German team, Senegal would battle Ukrain, with Ghana and Mali confronting each other for the Quarter final tickets.

Flying Eagles coach, Manu Garba, has promised that his wards were ready to confront and beat the Germans. “Our next game is against Germany but we are ready for any team, because if we want to be champions we have to be ready for any of them,’’ he said.
