BURATAI-1

Suspected Boko Haram insurgent have reportedly burnt down houses, including the family home of the newly appointed Chief of Army Staff, Major-General Tukur Buratai, on Tuesday.

Security sources disclosed that at least two people were killed and eight others injured in Buratai in Borno State, but the Chief of Army Staff was not present at the time of the attack in the early hours of that day.

Boko Haram has been waging a deadly campaign to carve out an enclave adhering to strict Islamic law in Nigeria’s North East in the past six years. After being pushed out of most of the territory they gained earlier this year, the group scattered and returned to attack soft targets.

President Muhammadu Buhari has made ending the insurgency his priority and discussed how to tackle it during his ongoing official visit to Washington DC, United States on the invitation of President Barack Obama.
